NL Post #19 — Actions Define Family, Not the Word Itself One thing I’ve learned over the years much of it through my military service is this: When someone, repeatedly uses words like family, brotherhood, or camaraderie to demand your loyalty... Run. Fucking RUN. Because real family doesn’t need to constantly remind you that you’re family. Real brotherhood is demonstrated through actions. It isn’t declared whenever someone needs your obedience, your silence, your forgiveness, or another opportunity to cross a boundary. Sometimes the word family becomes a disguise. It creates a false sense of safety and belonging that allows unhealthy people to excuse their behavior while expecting everyone around them to remain loyal. And sometimes curiosity means being willing to question the words we were taught were supposed to make us feel safe. 🔹 Curiosity When someone tells you, “We’re family,” what happens if instead of accepting the statement, you become curious about it? What do their actions actually show? Do their words and behavior align? Because a title doesn’t define a relationship. Behavior does. 🔶 Permission I came from a family environment toxic enough that separation and distance were ultimately what allowed me to thrive. That experience changed the way I understand the word family. So when someone tells me, “We’re family,” I don’t automatically interpret that as safety anymore. I give myself permission to look beyond the word. Permission to question. Permission to establish boundaries. Permission to walk away if someone's definition of family requires me to abandon myself in order to belong. 🔹 Discovery Curiosity gives us an opportunity to examine what is actually happening rather than accepting the story being presented to us. Do they respect my boundaries? Do they offer the same loyalty they demand? Can I disagree without being punished? Can I say no without being guilted? Are they creating connection—or manufacturing obligation? Those questions often reveal far more than the word family ever could. 🔶 Reflection Maybe family isn’t something another person gets to define for you. Maybe it’s something you consciously define for yourself. Who makes you feel respected? Who allows you to remain an individual? Who supports your growth without demanding control over it? Who demonstrates loyalty when there is absolutely nothing for them to gain? Those are questions worth sitting with. 🔹 Creation Use curiosity to examine your boundaries and consciously define what family means to you. Here’s your curiosity prompt for this week: Who in your life has earned the title of family through their actions—not simply their words? And maybe more importantly: Are there relationships where the word “family” has kept you from setting a boundary you already know you need? Sit with that. Write about it. Or hit reply and tell me what family means to you now. Words may create the illusion of safety. Until next time—stay curious, Curiosity Creators. Remember. Reclaim. Create. NL Post #18 Fear can speak but it doesn’t have to make your choices. Fear speaks, Curiosity questions. “Curiosity is the compass. When fear keeps you stuck, use it to find your next step.” — Justin Charles Allman Fear doesn’t always show up loudly. Sometimes it sounds intelligent. Rational. Responsible. It gives us a hundred reasons why we should wait, stay where we are, avoid the risk, or choose what feels familiar. Maybe now isn’t the right time. What if this doesn’t work? What will people...
NL Post #17 — Our Differences Aren’t Flaws in Humanity. Resistance surfaces the moment you break the script and stand in your power Imagine living in a world where everyone shared the same thoughts, feelings, emotions, desires, and ambitions. Nobody stood out from the crowd. We were all conditioned to follow the same script, and questioning the constructs humanity had created was something to avoid. What kind of world would that be? On the surface, maybe it sounds peaceful. No polarity. No...
